With the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a Jain temple and a Bosnian café, this is a multifarious neighbourhood with a lot to offer. Both the Humber River and Black Creek add green to an area also blessed with three commercial strips: the Queensway, Islington and Bloor. Blocks tend to be short, with old-growth trees.
HOUSING STOCK: Almost all of the older houses, two-storey detacheds and sometimes quite elaborate brick bungalows, were built in the post-war period up to about 1960, though there are several recent townhouse developments.
BARGAIN ZONES: The area immediately east of Prince Edward south of the cemetery is, for the most part, less expensive than west of it.
THE VERICT: Almost 30 per cent of households bring in more than $100,000, up seven per cent from the previous census, a sure sign of a neighbourhood on the rise. Plenty of shops and restaurants, and easy access into and out of the city, make it a haven for families and singles.
