Now that brothels are legal, Giorgio Mammoliti (once again) wants to put some on Toronto Island
The province’s Court of Appeal legalized brothels in Ontario yesterday, sparking celebration, awkward headlines and some political opportunism from one Giorgio Mammoliti. Surprised? Neither are we. The landmark ruling is gives the go-ahead for brothels, though communicating for the purposes of prostitution will remain illegal.
The Globe and Mail does a good job of breaking down the decision:
The five-judge appellate panel said unanimously that prostitutes may set up brothels and hire staff to protect them. They said that it is senseless to have a law that compels prostitutes to work in dangerous isolation, given that prostitution itself is legal.
[…] The brothel ruling takes effect in a year. However, as of April 25, prostitutes can engage bodyguards. The court remodelled the pimping provision to target only those who live off the avails of prostitution “in circumstances of exploitation.”
The ruling was a chance for Mammoliti, who brought the crazy last year with his proposal for a red-light district on Toronto Island, to once again make his case. “There are arguments that we should have it as far away as possible,” he told the Toronto Star. “Obviously the island would be one of those locations, or part of the island, because it’s less accessible.” Mammoliti’s ongoing obsession with all things scandalous—brothels, body rub parlours, parades—is nearly as twisted as his reasoning: why take a court ruling aimed at ending the isolation that surrounds sex workers and use it to ship them off to an island?

In my humble opinion, Mammoliti is a very strange man. I mean seriously, frighteningly strange.
How about a giant ferris wheel brothel? How cool would that be? And a mono-rail connecting it to the main land! Or an underwater tunnel subway with express conection to Scarborough Town Centre. People want subways! Subways and donuts!
I think people spend so much time hating on our fool of a Mayor that they often miss the insane antics pulled by Mammoliti. Ford and Mamoliti aka Lloyd and Harry
Mammoliti, the man who wants to take a family-friendly destination and turn it into the haunt of Johns and hookers, even if the hookers are in nice big bunny ranches. He’ll go down in history for this attack on the quality of life in the city. As I read in a comment, “Mammories are made of this….”
The Port Authority tells you when to have or not to have sex. An expanded role for the Port Authority, a big brother with the key to the ferry…please can you extend your ferry hours, I get real finicky after 12a.m.
Mammoliti, please pass a bylaw to ban the Port Authority from having a strike, just in case. This can cause the male population on mainland Toronto to be in the “HEAT”, especially not during the summer.
What would make the city any different than the pimps?
Would this not be living on the a backs ( no pun intended)
of the prostitutes?
Look at other cities that have done it, there are plenty of social
problems that come with it.
soylent u funny!
Why won’t the government and ppl attack also swing clubs, those men who go after such women, pornographic content owners, if all of them slave women? People like to talk so much about women morality why will they encourage men acts?
