Occupy Toronto is staggering toward a conclusion. Early this morning, police and bylaw officers asked protesters to disperse, before entering the park and tagging tents for removal. The police’s arrival came after hours of rumours at the encampment, where many demonstrators were convinced a raid was coming at 4 a.m. (the police didn’t actually show up until a couple of hours later). There were garbage trucks and city workers scattered throughout the park, cataloguing people’s loose belongings so that they could retrieve them later. Many protesters have cleared out, while others show no signs of budging. One woman was arrested, but then quickly released from custody. For the most part, the situation seems to be in a weird state of limbo. Read Torontoist’s live blog [Torontoist] »

To those involved with the Occupy movement in Toronto, I take my hat off to you. You only simply stood to remind me of my old camping days-Nothing else. Someone told me this was about ‘the system’ , some say it’s about corporate greed…not enough info about what y’all stand for…only that y’all squatted in parks and town squares. I’ve been on social benefits. I live paycheck to paycheck. I have been a victim of corporate greed and irresponsibility. If that’s what this is about…stopping hunger, helping homeless find low income housing, jobs for the inexperienced…say so. The media just reported on your exploitation of the city bylaws…not what y’all stand for. Get organized. Appoint a spokesperson or persons and do it for real…not Crash N’Trash a park
November 23, 2011 at 6:52 pm | by JenI guess the public opinion on this movement against inequalities in Toronto would be so much better if the protesters simply decided to clean up the park themselves, on their own expenses. It might have actually gained them a lot more support. I believe that every right implies a responsibility, they were allowed to show their opinion so now they need to show some maturity as well.
