House of the Week: $3 million for a slick pile with a tricked-out backyard at Bayview and York Mills

ADDRESS: 17 Lauderdale Drive

NEIGHBOURHOOD: St. Andrew–Windfields

AGENT: Barbara Banks, Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd., Brokerage

PRICE: $2,998,000

THE PLACE: A suburban five-bedroom that’s plain-Jane on the outside, swanky and sophisticated on the inside—with a two-storey open-concept living room, hardwood floors, and a floating glass-railed staircase.

BRAGGING RIGHTS: The tennis court, swimming pool, putting green and sauna basically mean you’ll be living in your own country club (without the sky-high membership fees or any sort of Rodney Dangerfield antics).

BIG SELLING POINT: The backyard has a heated patio and an outdoor fireplace, so if we ever experience winter again, you’ll be able to to toast s’mores in the snow wearing little more than shorts and a T-shirt.

POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: The red-brick exterior belies the cool modern interior—if you’re looking for glass and steel curb appeal, look elsewhere.

BY THE NUMBERS:
• $2,998,000
• 5 bedrooms
• 7 bathrooms
• 2 storeys
• 1 wine cellar
• 1 tennis court
• 1 pool
• 1 putting green
• 1 sauna
• 1 home theatre

  1. It’s disappointing to see that the person who captions the photos is back to his/her unfunny comments.

  2. A real surprise. Nothing to indicate such modern interiors from the outside. Really beautifully done. On a side note, it was a relief to see that the lawns were as bare and weedy as my own in some spots. Apprarently, I am in very good company without the use of pesticides.

  3. that was a surprise on the inside, the outside cleverly disguises the fabulous interior and great outdoor area in the rear.

  4. Very well appointed house. Very annoying comments. Is the person who writes them mentally challenged?

  5. My only complaints are the bad design layout of and lack of space in the kitchen as well as the tv in front of the fireplace in the master bedroom. 50 million dollar lotto max on friday- i guess i could change both.

  6. Beautiful home–love the stairway and light throughout as well as the bathrooms. Not really fond of the kitchen cabinets (frankly they look cheap) and maybe the black and white decor is a little sterile, too modern, too current and unimaginative (I think it will look outdated in 5 years). It would have been nice to mix in some surprising elements like an antique piece or something more organic. But I am *really* being picky here. This house definitely looks like it’s worth 3 million dollars! I would be so lucky to afford something like this!

  7. The home is beautiful, very deceptive from the curb. Agreed about the comments, there is no way it is just one person commentating the condo/home of the week; some are great and some like this one are annoying and pure drivel.

  8. Whoever wrote those photo captions/comments should be banned. They were very immature and unfunny. Detracted from appreciating the photos of the house.

  9. oh lighten up – the captions are just funny trifles. You must relax a little.

  11. Totally agree with you highparkishome.

That kitchen could be so much bigger but they probably didn’t change the floor space much, just knocked out some walls.

Nice yard. Too bad the $3million did buy a little more privacy from the neighbours.

Otherwise, a nice house in a land of overpriced Real Housewives new builds!

  12. “There’s a basketball net in the tennis court, probably for inventing a new sport called tennketball”
yes. that is exactly what it’s for.
