House of the Week: $3.7 million for a Hoggs Hollow home with a beautiful backyard

ADDRESS: 6 Green Valley Rd.

NEIGHBOURHOOD:  Bridle Path – York Mills – Sunnybrook

AGENT: Geraldine Del Zotto, Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd., Brokerage

PRICE: $3,695,000

THE PLACE: The French countryside meets the Hamptons in this unique York Mills home, awash in vivid colours—magenta, apple green, lilac and royal blue.

BRAGGING RIGHTS: The best backyard on the block. There’s an expansive patio, a picturesque garden, a swimming pool (with diving board) and a cabana that’s basically a home away from home. Sitting poolside are a fully equipped fridge and freezer, a dishwasher, double ovens, a four-burner stove, two televisions, a washroom with shower, laundry, ample seating space and even a comfy loft for cat naps.

BIG SELLING POINT: The current owners spent over $1,000,000 in recent renovations on landscaping, the poolside cabana, the outdoor patio and the interior, meaning everything is modern and fresh.

POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: The splashy renovations may not be right for a family looking to remodel their new home in their own style.

BY THE NUMBERS:
• $3,695,000
• $24,701.01 in property taxes (2010)
• 8 bathrooms
• 5 bedrooms

  1. Just beautiful. Gorgeous backyard. Lovely furnishings. Even the strong paint colours look wonderful.

  2. A truly lovely home. A few decorating faux pas but nothing that can’t be fixed inexpensively. For the most part it has been decorated beautifully.

  4. Very nice indeed… the only drawback is TL stupid obsession with the flowers and showing us 48 pics with tired captions. Get a life, Toronto Life.

  5. Dear God. I don’t know how much more ineptitude I can take. It isn’t a lava rock, it’s a Himalayan Salt Crystal. If you don’t know what something is, don’t assume. You know what they say about assuming and it couldn’t be more true than it is with the captions that go with the pictures in “House of the Week” and “Cottage of the Week”.

  6. Love the house and the captions! I go with June’s assessment, a few deco changes (for starters those ugly bar & dining chairs in the kitchen) and the house would be perfect.

  9. This house is overrated – the architecture is ok but the interiors aren’t so hot. The book shelves in the living room are hideous!

  10. I agree with Kim.
Do some research on the benefits of a Himalayan Salt Crystal lamp
Outside is great – the inside cupboards – toooo much detail on the wood and some are def wrong colours.

  11. Yeah, I am with Ben. What the hell is with the shelving in the living room? Was the carpenter on crack that day?
