Rob Ford starts his weight loss challenge with a public weigh-in (also, puns)
Rob Ford and brother Doug start their public weight loss campaign today, as part of their plan to raise money for charity (and, we suspect, to distract reporters from more pressing issues than the mayor’s waistline). You can track the Fords’ progress at CutTheWaist.ca—see what they did there?—a website that keeps tabs on how many pounds the brothers are losing, as well as the rest of the city (yes, Torontonians can report their own weight loss efforts, too). Meanwhile, the Toronto Star has the awkward task of reporting on the PR stunt without actually speaking to the mayor. But who knows, maybe consistently positive coverage of the challenge could put the paper back in the mayor’s good books. Though, really, we doubt it. Read the entire story [CP24] »
In 6 months Ford will explain how “cutting the waist” actually meant the opposite, guaranteed! Then he’ll proclaim a great victory for the taxpayers.
The website, btw, is extremely poorly designed. It’s entirely unclear what we’re supposed to be pledging and why.
Hopefully the mayor has looked at the workout designed for him by Toronto fitness blogger – Health Habits

it looks fairly clear to me, for each pound lost, you are pledging to donate that amount to the charity of your choosing, so if you do “$5, sick kids hospital”, and they lose 50 lbs each (100 total), you are pledging to donate $500 to sick kids once this thing is over.
He is using re-direction from the real issues and everything that he is doing, so who cares what cuts he is making lets cheer him on? and now he will loose weight on taxpayers dime? seriously? while it’s great that he is trying to loose weight I am sure his heart will thank him, But what does his personal business have to do with anything? I am sure that while he is loosing his weight other people will be loosing their jobs, I sincerely doubt they will be cheering him on……..
Typical political maneuver to distract Torontonians from the service cutting and job losses.
Very transparent:
However one less box of beer will certainly limit the 911 calls from Robs crib.
I thought that it was great that he was trying to do this… But it did shock me that he was doing it to raise money for charity… A better approach, I felt, to this is if he was doing it to help encourage overweight/obese members of society to lose weight as well. Considering the fact that the economic costs of obesity are estimated at 4.6 billion in 2008 alone!!! The sad thing is that that estimate is lower than it would be now… If you incorporate the additional 18 chronic diseases linked to obesity the estimate rises to close to $7.1 billion…
