The latest addition to the downtown grab-and-go market is housed in a new condo building built on what was once the rundown Bay Street Motel. Although dine-in options include four hot-pressed sandwiches, many instead head to the back refrigeration case for the freshly made and cardboard-packaged wedge sammies. The Brick Lane chicken sandwich ($9.50 for full; $4.75 for half) is inspired by the classic British coronation chicken, back in vogue for the Queen’s diamond jubilee. It packs coconut curry–enrobed chicken breast, plump sultana raisins and hearty toasted cashews between two slices of multigrain bread, along with fresh mango and springy baby spinach leaves. We wash it all down with a sweet and refreshing fresh strawberry guava juice ($3.75). The meal is both portable and picnic-friendly, something to keep in mind should warmer weather ever return.

The cost: $14.97 including tax.

The time: 10 minutes, 6 of which were spent waiting to have the out-of-stock sandwich made from scratch.
