Four weeks in, this friendly gastropub is already a downtown favourite. With its cream-hued walls, antique light fixtures and white tin ceiling, it summons a refreshing neighbourly vibe in Toronto’s corporate epicentre. Chef Graham Pratt serves up equally pleasing lunchtime standards, like pulled pork, mac and cheese and burgers, with the help of consulting chef Rodney Bowers (both are of Rosebud fame). One of the menu’s more refined selections is the sautéed black cod, sourced from Gus Nikoletsos at City Fish Market. After a gentle tap of the fork, the lightly seared exterior gives way to sweet and velvety flakes inside. The fish is served with a meaty king oyster mushroom over a bed of hearty black lentils, and garnished with a healthy dose of daikon sprouts. A pint of Sapporo ($7) makes a perfect match.
