Pepsi Throwback touted as featuring “real sugar”

Missing the days of Afros, bell-bottoms and disco tunes? Yeah, neither are we (well, maybe disco). For some reason, it seems as though Pepsi is. Beginning last week, and for a limited time across Canada, they’re releasing Pepsi Throwback, a return to the classic 1970s look and recipe. The old-school cola boasts more vanilla and caramel notes than regular Pepsi, and will be made with—shocker alert—real sugar.

Pepsi is touting the product as a relic of ages past: according to Robb Hadley, Director of Enjoyment and Transformation (awesome job title, if you ask us), “those of us who lived through it remember the ’70s fondly as a time of great extremes—everything from disco and punk to leisure suits and torn T-shirts…. Whatever your memories or thoughts of the 70s, one look at Pepsi Throwback takes you there smiling.”  While we’re not sure about fond memories of leisure suits (outside of Anchorman), it’s interesting to note that the major difference between the two versions is that Pepsi Throwback doesn’t contain the potentially weight-ballooning, high-fructose corn syrup, and teeth-eroding citric acid of today’s incarnation. That’s vintage we can get behind.

  1. … the only thing they forgot is that cool dual pop lid that you opened by depressing the round slots at the top (small for airflow and large for drinking), . . . now where’s my corduroy leisure suit?
