Do not ask Rosie DiManno about her weekend. On Saturday, the Internet took aim at one of the Toronto Star columnist’s recent pieces, and the scathing and hilarious critiques included one from the takedown specialists at Gawker, who awarded her the prize for “Worst Lede of All Time.” At least DiManno can take comfort that she’s not the first of Toronto’s writerly class to run afoul of the site. Below, we rounded up Gawker’s most angry screeds and memorable jabs at Toronto media.

Gawker Gotchas: the snarky site’s top six takedowns of Toronto journalists
SPOTTED: Jon Hamm going for a walk in Yorkville
Don Draper sighting! Gossip queen Lainey is first on the ball with this one, reporting via Twitter: “Jon Hamm is walking around Yorkville. Take it easy ladies. #TIFF2011.” If only we could be in more than one place at a time right now. Hamm will also be walking down the red carpet tonight—beside pretty young thing Megan Fox, who we spotted earlier, for the gala presentation of Friends With Kids.

SPOTTED: Megan Fox and hubby Brian Austin Green in town for TIFF 2011
Megan Fox has had a tough year: she dropped way down on Maxim’s annual Hot 100 list, Rosie Huntington-Whitely replaced her in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and she publically squabbled with Michael Bay. That said, Lainey Gossip is reporting that Fox touched down in Toronto today—it looks like husband Brian Austin Green is at her side—and we’ve got to admit she’s looking pretty great in a black maxi dress and jacket. Plus, she’ll be at the Ryerson Theatre tonight alongside Don Draper, er, Jon Hamm, for the gala presentation of Friends with Kids. Has the red carpet ever been hotter?

TIFF 2011 announcement: 53 films, one new venue and a whack of stars who might come to Toronto

Sarah Polley’s Take this Waltz is one of this year’s Galas
TIFF unveiled part of its 2011 lineup today, and 53 movies will have their North American or world premieres in Toronto this fall. Among the spectators at the press conference this morning in Toronto was a solitary celebrity—actress and director Sarah Polley—but expect lots of boldface names in the city come September. Directors whose films are slated for this year’s fest include Lars von Trier, Francis Ford Coppola and Marc Forster, and they could come accompanied by such stars as Olivia Wilde, Juliette Binoche, Carey Mulligan, Blake Lively, Glenn Close, Vincent Cassel and Ice Cube (yes, of the famed Are We There Yet? and Friday). Those are just some of the famous faces that we’re hoping to spot at Sassafraz, pop-up nightclubs and the latest TIFF venue, The Princess of Wales Theatre. We’ve compiled a full list below.

TIFF’s most memorable couples
Is it just us, or were significant others one of the most commonly spotted red carpet accessories? Nicole, Jon, Megan (to name a few) all showed off their better halves at their premieres. With the festival wrapped up for another year, a look back at this year’s most memorable couples in our slide show below.
The swag series: what Megan Fox and Mickey Rourke are receiving

(Image: JJ Thomson)
What it is: Bask-It-Style presented a media lounge in the Royal York’s Prime Minister’s suite to preview the swag it will be giving stars. Rather than make the celebs trudge all the way downtown (after all, that Avenue Road and Bloor construction makes travel a nightmare), Bask-It delivers pieces to the Hollywood bigwigs’ suites.
Who gets it: Such celebs as Megan Fox and Mickey Rourke have already been sent bags.

The swag series: RealTV is one of TIFF’s best lounges

Serious bling at the RealTV lounge (Image: Fraser Abe)
What it is: RealTV Films’ Social Media Lounge (vying for the longest gifting-lounge title this TIFF) has partnered with Chic Little Devil, an L.A.-based style boutique, to offer celebs swag, make-overs, food and booze. Many of the products aren’t to give away but to showcase; and the space offers film people a place to hang out and decompress near the TIFF epicentre, the Bell Lightbox.
Who goes: TIFF hot commodities Emily Hampshire (who wore an Herve Leger-style dress from Chic Little Devil to the Alliance Films Party) and Katie Boland, Tara Spencer-Nairn of Corner Gas, and Playboy Bunny Bridget Marquardt have all stopped in. Guests expected this week are Megan Fox, Jamie Kennedy and Keshia Chanté.

Spotted: Bill Murray’s in Toronto
Our favourite straight-faced party crasher, Bill Murray, was spotted last night at Buca, the amazing Italian restaurant on King Street West. He was out celebrating the premiere of Passion Play, his new film that stars Mickey Rourke as a washed-up jazz musician and Megan Fox as a winged circus freak.

Organized fun: assigned seats for paparazzi at TIFF

Photo frenzy: Oprah's appearance at TIFF last year (Image: Karon Liu)
Brad Pitt and George Clooney may not be coming to TIFF this year, but the film festival is anticipating that such celebs as Megan Fox, Clint Eastwood and Jon Hamm will draw large numbers of paparazzi, which is why the paparazzi rules are changing. In the past, red-carpet-side spots were doled out via a lottery system, with photographers jockeying for good placement. According to the Hollywood Reporter, media will now have to e-mail festival organizers each morning with a list of events they’d like to cover and will receive a reply e-mail saying whether they’ve been approved for an assigned place on the red carpet.
