Trendy athleisure wear arrives on Roncesvalles

Ardith opened a few weeks ago on Roncesvalles, giving west-end health goths, normcore addicts and neighbourhood moms a new destination for trendy athleisure wear that’s nothing like the garb you’d find at Sport Chek. Owner Miranda Bryden, who named the store after her 95-year-old grandmother, calls the place a “holistic active lifestyle boutique,” and sells practical household items—beeswax candles, ceramic mugs, portable speakers and particularly pretty yoga mats—as well as cool, functional apparel. Bryden says the clothing is all about versatility, movement and design: “You don’t have to be an athlete to live an active life. It’s about finding clothes that work for you.” The shop’s mostly packed with stylish workout gear that can double as everyday wear, including edgy sports bras from local brand Michi and supremely comfortable, tight-weave leggings from Lucas Hugh, the UK performance label behind those Hunger Games bodysuits. (Ardith is the first Canadian store to stock the brand.) Laid-back, utilitarian pieces by Toronto Fashion Week designer Travis Taddeo make up some of the less sporty clothing on offer, and shoppers can expect almost everything to be priced between $40 and $200.
