American superstore Target’s Canadian invasion took a big leap forward today with the opening of 17 new Ontario locations, including those in Toronto’s East York Town Centre and Centrepoint Mall and Etobicoke’s Cloverdale Mall. The stores are still in soft launch mode, which means that, like during the launch of the chain’s Guelph store on March 5, a few snafus are to be expected. The Shoppers World Danforth and the Square One Shopping Centre locations will soft-open March 28, and the brand is promising a splashy grand opening in early April.
Why does target look a lot like zellers even the same old clothing of zellers brand. Even the staff have the same attitude of zellers not knowing where the product is
I’ve been to 3 different locations. Impressions – Milton store – small, messy, empty shelves.
Didn’t think much about this particular location but Target did bring new life to this small mall.
Ajax & Whitby stores – bright, still lots of empty shelves. some Zellers brands but also have a number of new brands. Check-outs were fast, staff seemed to be well-trained & prepared, Food area – was organized, stocked well, some new products that I haven’t seen here before, Decor area – some nice products especially for children’s rooms but again lots of empty shelving space. The cosmetic area is nicely laid out, well lite. Prices are OK, some things are pricey, they need to have some good sales to attract and keep customers. Hopefully cross-border delivery will not create too many problems. It will be nice when all the growing pains are addressed and the stores are up and running at full capacity with no empty shelves.
Do we really need more giant wallmart clones? How much stuff and clutter do people need anyways? Not sure if they will be successful in Canada.
I checked out Target the other day for the first time at Steeles and Yonge location. Can I tell you all……..how SAD it was. What was the whole hype about? When I first visited Target across the border years ago, this is the Target that I remember. Name brands, lots to choose from, Helpful staff, etc. The Target version they threw at us here in Canada is down right PATHETIC to say the least.
