Video: a snarky look at Toronto’s obsession with Canada Goose parkas
Although we’ve spotted a couple of great winter outfits this year, hooded Canada Goose coats have become the de facto uniform of the winterized Torontonian. They are now so ubiquitous that this homemade—and hilarious—music video skewering the superabundance of the pricey puffers apparently only took two hours to film. The logical and slightly depressing conclusion: a macaque has better style than a large chunk of the city’s denizens. [h/t Canadian Business]
Sticking it to the man, man. That the elitist and so very posh Toronto Life would take part in ridiculing people for wearing a brand of coat is quite comical. Can’t wait to read the next Guide to the Ten Best Private Schools in Toronto.
I don’t see anything wrong with supporting Canadian-made outerwear.
This video is amazing. and Hahahahaha AugustWest99
It _is_ pretty ubiquitous, and is a status symbol without denoting status in anything but the ability to put a $800 coat on credit.
If I live in the North Pole or work outdoor all day, maybe…
but looking like everyone else is just not for me.
I have better style and my own identity
I’m just glad it’s a Canadian company.
Unfortunately this isn’t about supporting Canadian-made. This is about uniformity to the level of absurdity. It’s really sad how seemingly everyone in Toronto ages 16-45 wants to look the exact same.
You could go and argue the same thing about Nike running shoes… Or even better, the Apple iPhone…which is more comparable in price. I bet the fools who made this video have an iPhone…and probably an iPad.
I have no problem with this brand. They are great at what they do, they are 100% Canadian, and clearly people like them.

Maybe, but I see something a little wrong with supporting exorbitantly priced Canadian-made outerwear. If people have the money for an $800 coat, fine. But I’m willing to bet the majority don’t – they’re just maxing out their credit so they can “be seen” in a status symbol.
I hate these coats and hate seeing them. Because the fur is only a trim it’s ok? Tired of seeing people wear corpses as fashion.
Go to Stockholm and you’ll see the exact same thing. From every grandma to teenager, they all have Canada Goose on. So what?
i have to point out that i just came back from another article here where TL is promoting $900 bedazzled high heeled sneakers as the greatest things ever but dissing a canadian made winter jacket. doesn’t make too much sense there…
I like the orange one.
I went to European Bound to look at them and they told me they don’t know why people keep buying these coats. They aren’t water proof. They are made for standing still in Antarctica.
Canada Goose coats may not be the most stylish coats around, but they sure as hell are the warmest coats around! I have one myself and I DID NOT buy it for the name, I just wanted a really warm coat! I admit that the style leaves A LOT to be desired though, unfortunately.
