Mankles: the new erogenous zone? (Images: Jenna Marie Wakani)

At a Bustle show, the spectacle often outshines the fashion. In past seasons, Rick Mercer, Jeanne Beker and model Stacey McKenzie have appeared on the runway, and the buzz always brings out a crowd. We saw Kurt Browning sitting beside Rex Harrington and Keshia Chanté in enormous sunglasses. This year, designers Shawn Hewson and Ruth Promislow opted for less glam and more edge, with a show headlined by self-proclaimed “sleaze rock” band Die Mannequin. The group played punkish jams at the back of the catwalk as models walked out with serious guyliner, a confusing mash-up considering the collection was otherwise the picture of genteel country club.

Ankles were on full display (is this man’s new erogenous zone?)—both bare naked and tarted up with bright, patterned socks—and echoing the Dimitri Chris show last week, some models wore sock garters. We know Mad Men is popular and all, but we just can’t see dressing like our grandfather when he washes the driveway. What we would wear are the rolled-up cotton shorts with the denim print (effectively turning jeggings into jorts), the bright purple polo with a contrasting gingham print on the placket and under the collar, and the speckled, almost floral-print dress shirts.
