The cheery, slightly shabby room, decorated with photos from the old country, is regularly packed with east enders seeking out some of the best Vietnamese food this side of the DVP. Chao tom brings two thick stalks of sugarcane wrapped in rings of nicely charred, well-seasoned barbecue shrimp. Springy vermicelli noodles in the bun nem nuong cha gio bi provide a fresh contrast to the fatty pork sausages and the crunchy pork skin piled on top. Pho tai gau, a filling beef soup, is hearty and satisfying: a bowl of robustly flavoured broth, flat rice noodles, thinly sliced rare beef, brisket a scattering of green onions and basil and as much sriracha as you can handle.
