Eating cold faux noodles—raw veggies, uncooked—in winter and enjoying the experience seems vaguely un-Canadian, yet the food at this classic vegan café is delicious. The kitchen knows that without animal products or high temperatures, flavour needs to come from spices, herbs and garlic. On one visit, a milkshake of almond milk, cacao, avocado and agave is thick and rich; it’s tasty but not cold enough. A pasta bolognese of pesto, marinara sauce and crumbled “neatballs” is a delicious stand-in for the original.
