The spare, cream-coloured room, decorated with a few images of Buddha, is made lively by the hubbub of young Danforth families, all of whom gush about the quality of the food throughout the meal. The praise is mostly deserved—a lot of love goes into the vegetarian Thai, Malaysian and Singaporean dishes—but not every plate is successful. The taro-filled spring rolls have a crackling golden shell, but the taro gets lost in too much wrapping, and the sweet dipping sauce tastes like it came from Manchu Wok. Crispy fried tofu in a tamarind broth is a good, simple dish (the tamarind is both sweet and devilishly puckery—as it should be), but the accompanying curried okra are a bit slimy and stay piled on the plate long after the tofu has been devoured. A green curry with faux chicken (made of soy protein that creates an almost realistic, if chewy, texture) is nicely spicy and heaped with fresh, crisp broccoli and bell peppers. Unlicensed.
