For years now, owner/shucker extraordinaire Patrick McMurray has been making this downtown haunt the best place to savour impeccably sourced oysters. Beyond the nautically themed art and the cheerful staff lurks legitimate upscale dining. The booths are cozy, the wine list is thoughtful, and the menu focuses on fresh, seasonal seafood. Grilled peppers, arugula and preserved lemon perfectly complement juicy grilled sardines, and saffron- and cumin-spiked chickpea salad offers a robust sub-continental foil to the crispy skin of a barely overcooked red snapper fillet. The bivalves—a meaty Galway or a Kumamoto with the delicate perfume of a sea breeze—are exceptional. Non-seafood dishes—like savoury medium-rare duck breast with a charming sweet potato, bell pepper and duck confit hash—are excellent. Mains $18–$30.
