At this venerable Hogg’s Hollow establishment, the decor is dated and the service is frosty, but the dining room is full, in part because it’s a neighbourhood institution and in part because the food is pretty good. Two huge, plump crab cakes, seasoned with parsley and red pepper, are moist and expertly fried; the accompanying blob of curry mayo and swirl of red pepper coulis are a little 1989, but the flavours are brilliant. Mains $12–$38.
