Despite the posh exterior (warm red brick, old-fashioned details), the Miller Tavern’s two-storey dining room feels like a classed-up Keg, with flat-screen TVs, lit-up beer signs and varnished wood. The families that pack the place don’t seem to mind the decor; they’re there for the surf-and-turf. Two large crab cakes are crispy on the outside and packed with soft, sweet blue crab and shrimp. They’re a better bet than the shrimp cocktail, which brings three paltry shellfish. Apples, pecans and dried cherries sound more like ingredients for a salad than for the pumpkin ravioli they’re tossed with, but a bright, creamy apple cider sauce ties the disparate elements together nicely. Rocket-fuel cocktails are best skipped in favour of dessert. The crème brûlée’s crust is properly thick and glassy, the velvety yellow cream underneath flecked with vanilla. A generous slice of warm, dense peach cake is drenched in caramel—it could easily be shared, but you might not want to. Mains $12–$49.
