Coco Chanel said that a woman should always remove one accessory before leaving the house. If executive chef Gaetano Ferrara removed one thing from each plate that left his kitchen, his competent dishes would be considerably improved. Still, the patrons who fill the super-sleek, dark and cavernous room don’t seem to mind that the scallops (faultlessly cooked and served with tasty pickled cipollini) get lost among unnecessary additions of caramelized apple and almond brittle, or that the moist black cod (also perfectly prepared and served with crunchy baby bok choy) is covered with a too-sweet, thick layer of miso glaze and served on a fried rice roundel that tastes exactly like a McDonald’s hash brown. That’s because most of the crowd is here to party first, eat second. Mains $21–$39.
