When fussy food and $30 entrées lost their lustre in the post-recession economy, Marben’s owners gave their resto-lounge a thorough make-under with a new chef, simpler menu and more rustic look. The focus is on carefully sourced local produce, which shines in a simple salad of sweet cherry tomatoes, crunchy cukes and snipped chives emboldened by sharp ranch dressing. For dessert, a sensational double-chocolate ice cream sandwich is served alongside hot fudge sauce and crème anglaise for dipping. With all the attention lavished on the cocktail list, wines by the glass seem to be an afterthought. Small plates $6–$20.
