The setting in a former church begs for high-concept, postmodern cuisine; unfortunately, the kitchen isn’t always up to the task. Creamy buffalo mozzarella soup with a savoury pizza tuile charmingly deconstructs a classic pie with intense tomato and olive flavours. An otherwise wonderful spot prawn app is overwhelmed by a muddle of elements, including chorizo oil and sweet garlic cream–filled tortellini. Tender, sweet porcini-crusted Qualicum Bay scallops dazzle with a bright watercress sauce; it’s too bad they’re a side element for an under-seasoned, bland wild coho salmon. Fizzy strawberry seltzer sipped through a sugar-crusted vanilla bean straw is a refreshing standout on a playful and enjoyable strawberry dessert plate. Closed December to April. Mains $32–$48.
