High, polished-tin ceilings and two rows of Art Deco schoolhouse lights keep this large bistro cozy. Luxe and local touches give the comfort food menu some modern zing—all in all, it’s a satisfying, casual evening out. A seasonal salad of tomatoes, green beans and slim slices of Monforte Dairy Toscano cheese is simply touched with good olive oil and sprinkled with local bacon bits. Rocky Shore oysters from P.E.I., served with mignonette, house-made seafood sauce and horseradish, are a good foil for their intense brininess. Macaroni and cheese brings al dente penne that’s generously topped with sweet chunks of lobster, a scattering of green peas and more of those bacon bits. A daily special of elk strip loin sees two generous slices cooked just below medium-rare: it’s juicy and tender with just a hint of gaminess, and sided by creamy fingerling mash and earthy baby candy-cane beets. Rich and fluffy coconut cream pie has a crumbly graham cracker crust and is drizzled with wonderful, only slightly boozy rum caramel. Inventive cocktails include the Tennessee Rose (bourbon, cassis and grapefruit). A long wine list offers a decent selection of five- and nine-ounce pours. Mains $17–$34.
