Outside the picture windows, the scene is as Muskoka as it gets: tall pines silhouetted in the sunset across a dark lake reflecting gold light. Inside it’s a little more urban: granite bar, sleek gas fireplaces, ladies in clattering stilettos, fellas in button-down shirts. The menu hovers around and often surpasses the $40 entrée mark and is fancy in a slightly dated way: tarragon foam, vanilla sweet potato, dessert trios. For all of its ambition, the kitchen is at its best with the simplest dishes: a risotto of woodland mushrooms with pine nuts and taleggio, for example. The lumpy, oversized sea scallops should be avoided. Closed December to April. Mains $26–$42.
