The dining experience begins on the dock of Algonquin’s Cache Lake with the arrival of the wooden freighter canoe that delivers guests to a rustic pine lodge. An ever-changing five-course menu (no à la carte options) caters to locavores and culinary travellers. An excellent plate of grilled beef tenderloin is set on a mound of nutty brown butter–mashed potatoes, tempura shallots and a pine cone–shaped scoop of sharp concentrated Gorgonzola foam that lends punch to the mild cut of meat. Closed November to April. Prix fixe $59.
