On the first Friday of every month, Etobicoke’s staid Mediterranean-inspired dining room is transformed into a traditional Turkish fête—belly dancers, fortune tellers and live folk music. Fresh, homemade pastry is a specialty. Gul Boregi features a feather-light, crisp exterior that gives way to a fluffy but dense multi-layered filling of intensely flavoured ground beef. Manti—tiny, beef-filled dumplings—are served in an irresistibly rich dressing of warm butter and garlicky yogurt. The Adana kebab, a highlight on the mixed grill plate, is excellent. The mixture of chopped beef, lamp and dried hot peppers packs a wallop of spice; domates ezme, a creamy yogurt sauce, tames the heat. Sour cherry juice, a traditional treat from southern Turkey, is available alongside other drinks, like ayran yogurt (a salty, house-made version of Yop that takes some getting used to) and Turkish coffee. Baklava is flaky and deadly sweet. Friendly, knowledgable servers guide newcomers without a lick of pushiness. Closed Monday.
