The long, candlelit room with its paper-covered tabletops and dim lighting provides a comfortable, casual setting for chef Isam Kaisi’s take on classic Middle Eastern cooking. Start with a mezze platter for the table if you’re hungry: substantial servings of tahini-heavy hummus, roasted eggplant baba ghanouj with a sweet pomegranate syrup drizzle, tender beef kebabs, herbaceous tabbouleh and plenty of warm pita could make a meal in itself. Among the various tajine offerings, the simple vegetarian version provides the most thrills: tender, saucy and flavourful vegetables atop a heap of fluffy couscous. A wall of steam heralds the arrival of a tender braised lamb shank with more couscous and a sweet ginger-apricot sauce. Workmanlike desserts—cheesecake with poached figs, walnut- and pear-stuffed phyllo—play their roles without stealing the show. Mains $17–$24.
