The lunch spot on the eighth floor of the Bay adjacent to the Eaton Centre is like an affordable version of Canoe. Everything about it is elegant and simple. The awesome view of both old and new city halls is the primary draw, as is the menu of carefully prepared casual fare. Office workers in a hurry can grab a sandwich and salad, but the kitchen has a few surprises up its sleeve: grilled al dente asparagus with creamy, house-made, lemon-infused ricotta and roasted tomato vinaigrette may be the finest asparagus dish anywhere in the city. The pulled chicken poutine app with Ontario cheese curds, country gravy and crispy chicken skin is also marvellous. For mains, the local grass-fed beef burger, with aged cheddar, double-smoked bacon, red onion and basil-roasted garlic mayo on an egg bun, is a really good burger. However, grilled Ontario lake trout deserves a better fate than overcooking and a final bath in a cloying sweet pepper relish. Thoughtful, if occasionally sloppy, service. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
