An Easy Rider–themed restaurant is hard to pull off. Spare auto parts and vintage Americana, classic roadhouse comfort food, servers who don’t give a crap—even for the most ardent Peter Fonda fans, it sounds like a disastrous concept. But Easy, parked on a grungy corner at the edge of Parkdale, somehow makes it work. Saturday mornings bring hungover couples, hungover parents and not-hungover kids—all of whom seem to appreciate the novelty space, the no-nonsense cooking and the heaping portions. Brunch includes perfectly cooked eggs and crispy bacon, accompanied by surprisingly (but delightfully) upscale baguette toast. The Huevos Divorciados, the restaurant’s southwestern specialty, is a spicy mess of fried eggs, salsa, refried beans and guacamole—it’s heavy and satisfying, although better digested astride a motorcycle on the open highway rather than in the cramped quarters of the Queen streetcar.
