Bloorcourt’s cramped taco outpost isn’t as cool some of the city’s newer, trendy taquerias, but the food is fresh, the prices are decent and the space is charmingly grungy. When not laughing at the telenovelas on the flat screen behind the bar, friendly servers happily answer any menu-related queries. Guacamole is nicely tart and creamy, although a bit steep at $8. Taco choices are abundant: al pastor is loaded with nice, soft shreds of pork offset by pineapple, but the house-made chorizo version is too salty. The mole sauce on two fat chicken burritos tastes unpleasantly grainy, as though it came from a mix. Pozole is a better bet, bringing tender hominy corn in an earthy, dark red chili broth with fresh onion, radish and lemon. Skip slushy margaritas in favour of cheap Mexican beers, like Negra Modelo and Dos Equis.
