El Jacal [?]

The realization hits halfway through the meal, as our pleasant server brings a second basket of fresh, warm tortillas: one should never eat lunch before dining at El Jacal. Failure to adhere to this simple concept has serious consequences, as the food is fantastic, and there is a lot of it. Guacamole is heaped in a faux stone bowl and wreathed with still-hot fried tortilla chips. In a trio of mixed tacos, chorizo with cubes of onion wins. Suadero, cubed beef flank steak, is initially dry but much improved with a squeeze of lime. The cochinita pibil plate proves our undoing, with a wedge of tender pork with beans, onions, rice and, of course, those fresh tortillas.
