Edo [?]
416-322-3033
Surprisingly for a restaurant that’s been around since the ’80s, when there weren’t mediocre sushi restaurants on every block, Edo doesn’t show its age. The large ebony and yellow room is inoffensive, a look appropriate for any era. Maki, such as crunchy salmon skin and spicy tuna bits, are rolled to order, if unevenly sliced and portioned. The sashimi is clean tasting and fresh. Escolar, often masqueraded as butterfish, is properly cut and identified. Space-age glassware does justice to creamy, unfiltered nigori sake. Live jazz on Thursday night. Service is courteous and efficient. Mains $14–$44.
