District is a rare sushi joint among Riverside’s row of brunch spots. Pungent spring onion, perfect cubes of unmarred, creamy avocado and fleshy, ruby-coloured fish help elevate the tuna tartare. Maki are impressively executed: red dragon features still-warm battered shrimps and flawlessly textured rice. Hot dishes, however, are best ignored: perfectly cooked salmon fillet is overpowered by an unfortunate crust of crushed wasabi peas and a side of abysmally bland puréed edamame. Sweet sake-tinis are more sizzle than substance, but the four varieties of loose-leaf green tea are quality. The lone hard-working waitress provides pleasant, practised service. Small plates $5–$21.
