Smack in the centre of Yorkville, Trattoria Nervosa offers patrons several dining experiences. See and be seen on the sidewalk patio or affect Eurotrash airs in the chaotic but jubilant main-floor dining room. Upstairs, elegance permeates the high-ceilinged dining room and extends out to the second-floor patio. The open kitchen turns out a range of familiar, affordable pan-Meditteranean dishes. Three thick and slightly overcooked tentacles anchor the octopus salad; they’re saved by the excellent garnish of candied olive tapenade and orange vinaigrette. Carpaccio di manzo is a faithful rendition of the Venetian classic with the welcome addition of smoky truffled cannellini beans. Orecchiette are bathed in tomato sauce and tossed with rapini sprigs and hunks of Berkshire sausage and shaved pecorino. The pizzas won’t impress purists, but the thin crusts are crispy and the toppings inventive: fungi e formaggi marries earthy oyster and cremini mushrooms with rich prosciutto, gorgonzola, goat cheese and fresh cipollini. Though heavy on Italian reds, the wine list includes a few Niagara whites. Mains $13.50–$25.50.
