Despite the serious competition along Ossington’s restaurant row, not to mention the burgeoning dining scene around the corner on Dundas West, this lively, no-reservation pizzeria still packs them in. It fills by 7 p.m. on a school night, and on weekends, the vibe borders on anarchy. With executive chef Rocco Agostino’s attention now focused on his newer restaurant, Enoteca Sociale, this kitchen doesn’t seem to be firing on all cylinders. Pizzas are still among the city’s best, Neapolitan pies with crusts that hit the right balance of blister, char and chew. Margherita with sweet San Marzano tomato sauce, fior di latte and basil is always a safe and delicious bet, and there are some terrific specials, such as a disc topped with creamy stracciatella, briny caper berries and silky, house-cured gravlax-style trout. Another reason for the restaurant’s undying popularity is the wine list, which offers a plethora of Italian bottles under $50. Mains $10–$17.
