Offering a very traditional, very fancy take on Italian food, Noce is a fine special occasion choice for those craving a return to the days of starched white linens and black-tie service. A grilled octopus appetizer is tasty, fresh and perfectly cooked; handmade tagliatelle with rich chanterelles is excellent. Cow-centric entrées look great on paper, but braised beef cheeks need a counter- point to the saltiness, while a server-recommended, $39 osso buco is horribly crunchy with tendon, though the cheesy risotto it’s served over is phenomenal. A generous plate of aged Parmesan makes for a strong finish. Owners Guido and Elena Morelli are welcoming and affable, and the award-winning wine cellar offers an excellent selection of Old World bottles. Mains $28–$49.
