A dramatic purple chandelier stands out against the black-on-black-on-black (walls, ceiling, furniture) dining room. Owner Michael Pagliaro used to own the much-loved Il Mulino restaurant; like that Forest Hill spot, this downtown venture focuses on high-end Italian food with an emphasis on service and a mostly Italian wine list that doesn’t shy away from triple digits. A trio of seafood carpaccio is at its best with thin, satisfying slices of tender octopus in a champagne vinaigrette. Smoked salmon wrapped around a bouquet of greens with a mascarpone chive cream is reminiscent of business-class airplane food. Puffy, postage stamp–sized raviolini stuffed with braised veal are smartly paired with roasted pistachios and a sage brown butter sauce. Veal scaloppine is wrapped around an oozing dose of melted mozzarella that mingles with the rich tomato sauce. Mains $22–$38.
