Waterfalls Indian Tapas [?]
416-927-9666
Even in the curio-crammed streets of Kensington Market, Waterfalls’ decor is noticeably mismatched: the laid-back patio is canopied by beer-sponsored umbrellas, while the dining room is styled with white tablecloths, folded napkins and faux-rusted chandeliers. The feel is half sports bar, half new wave Indian eatery. Adding to the existential crisis are the traditional Indian dishes that could hardly be considered tapas. Still, the food is well done. Vegetarian samosas, dusted in a salt-and-peppery spice mix, are plump and flaky, pakoras nice and light. Ribbons of onion give deep-fried bajias sweetness and bite. In mains, East-West fusions lack invention, like the clichéd tandoori pizza, but the large selection of curries, such as the fiery lamb vindaloo and chicken chettinad, are packed with flavour. Though beer is best with the spicy food, a global wine list and a selection of too-strong cocktails are also available. Languid service.
