Superb food and service allow Curry Twist to overcome the hurdles of a lame name and clunky menu writing. Servers are perky and quick to explain the seasoning in each dish beyond the vague menu descriptions (e.g., “toasted spices”). Light green walls and a red-and-yellow-checkered floor avoid the clichés of Indian restaurants. The use of oil and butter is dialed down, resulting in clear flavours. The kitchen smokes eggplant for baingan bhartha, the stew zinged with a little ginger and juicy with tomatoes—it’s a remarkably light dish. There is no twist to the unjustly named Lamb Twist; it’s just slow-cooked nuggets of meat enveloped in a respectfully restrained sauce of cassia bark and coriander. Gulab jamun are fragrant with rose water and encrusted with coconut.
