Spirited conversation, live Greek music and periodic cheers for the flaming halloumi harmonize into a rollicking din. Over the years, many of the Danforth’s longstanding Greek eateries have declined in quality or fled the rising rents, but Pan still packs the dining room every weekend, proving that hip newcomers are no competition. Traditional dips like taramosalata, tzatziki and skordalia arrive with lightning-fast speed alongside piping hot triangles of garlicky, olive oil–dressed Greek pita. Tirokafteri, a thick, salty feta spread with a fiery banana-pepper kick, is especially addictive. Tender grilled octopus comes with a seductive, sprightly lemon-dill sauce that competes for pita mopping. Main dishes (like the first-rate lamb chops and cherry-balsamic glaze) come in heaping portions. Belly dancing and live music make for raucous entertainment on weekends. Mains $18–32.
