This is the kind of place where it’s best to leave the big handbag at home; you have to turn sideways to squeeze past the tables. People who dine in use double-shelled tacos, crunchy or soft, as salsa-delivery vehicles. The pupusas are popular but outclassed by fluffy corn-sweetened tamales. Flavour-packed bowls of pozole teem with chickpeas, chicken and pork. Every table gets large bowls of salsa and thick-sliced jalapeños. Rather than complain that the tiny room has no ventilation, think of it as a sauna with spicy food.
