Warm and inviting, this room effortlessly exudes a welcoming charm. Top Chef Canada contestant Dustin Gallagher divides his menu into three categories: meat, vegetables and seafood, featuring both appetizers and mains in each. The style of food is something like ambitious home cooking—chicken liver pâté, interesting salads—but those ambitions aren’t always well executed. Ricotta gnudi, for example, reads deliciously, but some of the six little rectangles are uncooked in the middle. Either way, it’s somewhat unsettling to eat a runny-centred gnudi. On one visit, a brimming plate of roast beef is a highlight. Tons of thickly sliced roast beef, perfectly medium rare, comes with a tiny gravy boat. Alongside is a dish of creamy spinach studded with roasted garlic chips and one gloriously puffy, crisp Yorkshire pudding stuffed with bone marrow. This kind of homey cooking is where Grace excels. Sadly, a fanciful plate of halibut is overcooked and dry, and while the plating is artful, beets and raw orange segments around the plate do not complement the fish. Desserts follow suit: a pretty little pie suffers from tough pastry and unpleasantly chunky lime-coconut cream, but warm-from-the-oven peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies hit the mark. Pleasant service. Mains $18–$36.
