Maybe he’s just old school, but chef Lorenzo Loseto has steadfastly resisted the overwhelming trend toward casual comfort dining. Refined food is Loseto’s forte, and his menu, which emphasizes local, seasonable and sustainable dishes, demonstrates his principles. The dimly lit space is both cozy and chic, if a little dated, with its ornate filigree and room-dividing trellis. Servers in plaid shirts are efficient and cordial. The tasting menus change constantly. Both vegetarian and meat options offer refined perspectives on continental and Asian cuisine, whether it’s an intensely briny skewered artichoke paired with a delicate, earthy mushroom foam or a disc of juicy, pink rib-eye slathered in decadent foie gras butter. The soft-shell crab and quinoa salad app with avocado mascarpone and papaya is a skilful mixture of subtle flavours. The only misstep is a grilled tofu dish that could’ve come from an amateur vegetarian cafe. Wonderful wine list, with many affordable bottles and a refined selection of domestic vintages. Mains $24–$25.
