When Guy Rawlings departed in April, he left a giant pair of clogs to fill. Enter 27-year-old Alexandra Feswick. Her food has delicious moments, but given the tight format, the flaws stand out. A brined then roasted chicken leg yields succulent flesh beneath its crisp, salty skin, but the accompanying corn cakes are leaden. Served in the requisite Mason jar, a decent crumble stars ripe peaches and juicy cherries; its sweet-tart edge is cut by a cloud of whipped cream. Cocktails, like the Bourbonade—a refreshingly simple blend of Maker’s Mark, lemonade and fresh thyme leaves—are a strength. The succinct wine card offers some good Ontario bottles.
