Now in its third incarnation, Susur Lee's signature King West space melds sleek lounge elements (cushy banquettes and leather couches) with elegant hints of modern chinoiserie: peony-printed linens adorn the tables and mobiles fashioned from Communist propaganda posters hang from the ceiling. The Singapore slaw is legendary: a 19-ingredient blend of crunchy cabbage, an umami-rich salted plum dressing, and bold hits of pungent fried shallot and punchy ginger. Other dishes, like black cod in an overpowering mustard sauce and aromatic green curry chicken are flavourful but unambitious. A delectable apple tart brings buttery pastry and a hint of cinnamon. Friendly service and a decent cocktail and wine list. Mains $15–$29.
