From the outside, this darling bistro in a corner brownstone is aglow like a Hopper painting, but inside, things are downright peculiar. A lone server wipes her sweaty brow and practically skips across the parquet floors as she juggles orders, preps drinks and shuttles plates to a dozen tables while the nearly full restaurant is eerily silent. Then the food arrives, and Weezie’s begins to make sense. Mac-and-cheese, prepared with bacon and a hint of truffle oil, is everything it should be: piping hot, creamy, cheesy and crispy on top. The steak frites is good, too, although the meat lacks sufficient charring. The wine list is short and lacklustre, with three reds and three whites available by the glass. A dark, buttery malva pudding, served warm with vanilla ice cream, is a highlight of the compact dessert menu. Mains $15–$28.
