There are moments of culinary brilliance at Riverside’s Table 17. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff friendly, and everything on the appealing menu is well executed and delicious, starting with two big, fat scallops, expertly seared to a deep, crusty amber. Béarnaise sauce alongside is too salty to match with a strip of crispy guanciale, but the plate sings regardless. Polenta served on a wooden board topped with wild boar bolognese is superb. Mains continue the parade of successful plates, with three small pieces of seared trout paired with a chilled corn salsa and a creamy avocado purée. Homemade tagliatelle is delicate and smartly paired with chorizo, fresh fava beans and pecorino. Such sides as the smashed fingerlings and fresh peas with pancetta aren’t to be missed. Mains $19–$28.
