The charm of this and all good bistros is the easy coexistence of the casual and the romantic, and sommelier Sylvain Brissonnet and his servers cheerfully maintain this balance—with the help of a short, thoughtful, predominantly French and Ontario wine list. For his part, chef Jean-Charles Dupoire presents well-executed contemporary bistro fare. A fork of tender, crackling-skinned braised pork belly is delightful. Parisian gnocchi in the shape of bay scallops are a playful and flavourful accompaniment to the real deal: perfectly cooked and salted sea scallops. Minor missteps, like a crumbly, bland chocolate-hazelnut macaron, are easy to forgive when they accompany a silken, intensely flavoured hazelnut crème brûlée. Mains $20–$27.
