This friendly bistro has quickly established itself as one of the better dining options on a strip known for pub grub and pierogies. The decor has all the personality of an IKEA showroom, but razor-sharp cooking tempers the banal aesthetics. Chef-owner Jacky Lo must have received treatment for his bacon obsession, as the menu is more balanced and less porcine than when he first opened shop. Perfectly poached lobster and shrimp star in a handsome salad that’s slightly overdressed in smoky chipotle mayo, with shaved radishes adding peppery crunch and tobiko delivering salty pop. Delightfully crisp, succulent duck confit is on point, smartly paired with soft, sweet, spice-poached pear and addictive coins of duck fat–fried fingerlings. Lo knows his way around an ice cream maker: daily sorbets of lemon grass–mango and strawberry-basil are vibrant in flavour, an expert balance of sweetness and acidity. Mains $15–$24.
