Co-owner Shamez Amlani has relocated his Kensington Market bistro to the dodgy strip between Spadina and Bathurst. La Palette’s romantic lighting and floral tablecloths are almost a parody of a French restaurant, but Amlani’s suave hosting is impossible to resist. Tartares include beef, bison, venison, wild boar and muskox and taste better when the kitchen goes easy on the caper-heavy marinade, which camouflages the flavours of the different proteins. Mains $20–$42.
